Lea Altner and Eveline Weber lead PEAC Museum in Freiburg into the future.
Lea Altner and Eveline Weber have been managing the PEAC Museum in Freiburg as the new Co-leadership since February 2023.
The Executive Board of the Ege Kunst- und Kulturstiftung, which manages the museum, as well as the Foundation Advisory Board, decided in favour of this new leadership after the departure of its long-time director, Dr. Julia Galandi-Pascual.
Lea Altner is a cultural scientist and works as a freelance curator, particularly on exhibition and educational projects with interdisciplinary and transcultural approaches. After working at the Migros Museum for Contemporary Art in Zurich and at the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover, where she also took over the interim management of the artistic department, she has been working at the PEAC Museum since September 2022. Here, too, she is interested in collaborative concepts that enable new perspectives on the works in the collection.
Eveline Weber has been a research assistant and curator at the PEAC Museum since 2015 and is just as familiar with the holdings of the Paul Ege Art Collection and the institution as with the management tasks, since she was already the interims manager of the Kunsthalle Messmer in 2014. The art historian, who previously studied in Karlsruhe, Paris and Heidelberg, has decisively shaped the digital appearance of the PEAC Museum with her focus on digital curation and will continue to pay particular attention to the presence and digital experience of the collection in the future.
For both of them, the decision to have dual leadership is not least a positive sign of a changing work culture in which cooperation is becoming increasingly important. Together with their team, they want to make the PEAC Museum a lively place of exchange, whose DNA is still determined by the collection, but which is part of a varied exhibition and event program in a continuous artistic dialogue.
As representative of the board of the Ege Art and Culture Foundation, Martin Ege explains: “I am convinced that the new Co-leadership represents a very good solution for PEAC Museum. The two young directors bring a lot of powerful dynamics with them, which suits such a collection particularly well. Through personal continuity, the spirit of the founder remains present. We are very much looking forward to the future of the PEAC Museum under Lea Altner and Eveline Weber.”
