„when your minds are empty of ego“ Lecture by Prof. Dr. Mona Schieren
Price: free
The person and work of the Canadian-American artist Agnes Martin are often associated with Buddhist philosophies. However, this attribution often serves more as myth-making than a nuanced analysis of her art. Using the concept of emptiness as an example, the lecture explains how Martin's artistic practice can be seen as an appropriation of Asian aesthetics. Mona Schieren is a Professor of Transcultural Art Studies at the University of the Arts Bremen. Her book Agnes Martin: Transcultural Translation (2016) was awarded the CAA International Translation Prize. In German.
